The Old Malt House is Going Green

At the Old Malt House we are committed to the environment and sustainable tourism.
We are members of Coast (Cornwalls sustainable tourism project). In 2008 we were awarded with the SECTA GREEN ACORN AWARD. This was presented to The Old Malt House in recognition of our commitment to sustainable tourism and the environment.
Steps we are taking to look after the environment include;
- Recycling of all rubbish
- Using locally produced and sourced products
- The use of energy saving light bulbs
- We use enviromentally friendly cleaning products
- People travelling to Looe by public tranport will receive a discount on the cost of their stay
- Bicycles are available for guests to use
- Fair trade products are included in our complimentary hospitality trays
We at the Old Malt House would like to encourage you to help us look after our beautiful environment and go green with us!
Here are a few simple steps along the way:
- Why not leave the car behind? Looe has a famously well known branch line with fantastic views coming in to Looe which is easily accessed from Liskeard station where you can get a train to anywhere in the country, also when you are here there are buses frequently to Polperro or Plymouth and there are boat trips to Polperro.
- There are plenty of places to eat in East and West Looe all within easy walking distance of the Old Malt House so no need to worry about drinking too much!
- In the near future we are hoping to be able to provide bikes to borrow for those of you who don’t mind cycling up hills!
- We will be recycling your rubbish as much as we can and would ask you to think about your towels, do you need them washing every day? This will help us reduce our water and energy consumption and lessen the amount of harmful detergents polluting our environment. We also use environmentally friendly detergent.
- Other changes we are making include changing light bulbs to energy saving ones and using fair-trade products on our tea trays. Your complimentary soaps are sourced locally and are made with environmentally friendly products
